COMMUNITY refurbishments have taken place in Prudhoe.

The Miners Lamp Cafe and Community Hub celebrated its third birthday after being opened on April 23, 2019.

Prudhoe Coun. Gordon Stewart said The Miners Lamp Cafe in Prudhoe's Eastwoods Park was an abandoned building, formerly the bowls pavilion, and had been unoccupied for approximately 20 years.

The Friends of Eastwoods Park own and operate the cafe and have supported additional improvements to Eastwoods Park.

These additional improvements include a new playground partially funded by Northumberland County Council, enlarged car parking availability and investment into the abandoned tennis courts.

Cllr Stewart said: "The park improvements have helped so many people get through the pandemic to socialise and exercise."

Eastwoods Park will soon be inspected as part of the Green Flag Awards which is an accreditation given to publicly accessible parks and open spaces. To achieve the Green Flag, parks have to meet criteria on sustainability, conservation and heritage, and community involvement.
