Area Manager Rob Clow said:" A team of nine volunteers from across the service, led by station manager Martin Kammeier have left Northumberland Fire & Rescue Services Headquarters.

"Between them, they are driving three vehicles no longer used by the service to Poland, where they will be handed over to the Ukraine Fire & Rescue Service.

"The vehicles, a fire appliance formerly based at Holy Island, an incident response unit, and a land Rover Paramedic Unit donated by the International Fire & Rescue Association will be used to supplement vehicles that have been destroyed or damaged during the current conflict.

"The team will drive to Kent where they will join a convoy of over 20 vehicles donated by fire and rescue services from across the country.

"The drive will cover approximately 1,500 miles, with the team due to return to the UK on Tuesday."
