A PRIMARY school received a special letter of thanks from the Queen after returning to school following the Easter break.
Bellingham Primary School students broke up for their Easter holidays on Friday, April 8 and returned to school on Monday, April 25.
Headteacher Wendy Goddard said the letter was there waiting to be opened on Monday morning when they returned to school.
"I took the letter into the dining hall and we normally get a lot of junk mail, but I said 'look what's came,' and I handed the letter to a child who opened it and they read it to everyone."
"It was lovely," she said. "The children were really excited."
The children had written letters to the Queen during their last week of school before they broke up for Easter, Miss Goddard said, and the students were thrilled to receive her reply.
She said they decided to write to the Queen to wish her a special anniversary, to send their best wishes, and for the children to ask a few questions.

Miss Goddard said the children did some fact finding about the Queen, so they knew she had been on the throne for 70 years and had learned about the death of her father, King George VI. They came up with many questions to ask the Queen, Miss Goddard said.
"Some of the children asked whether she liked to be Queen, was she looking forward to retiring, how did she like her eggs in the morning, if she liked dippy eggs or not," Miss Goddard said.
Along with the letter itself, there was also a photograph card which had Queen Elizabeth's photograph inside and a note of thanks for the children's congratulatory messages on her Platinum Jubilee.
"Someone else said they thought she did a good job as Queen," Miss Goddard said. "Others told her they'd been to London and seen Buckingham Palace."
"It was dead exciting, so we took a few pictures and put them on Facebook so everyone could see," she added.
The children who wrote the letters were ages 7 to 10, in Years 3, 4 and 5.
