Hexham Arts centre is to welcome a 'folk supergroup' to its stage for a 'spectacular show'

Queen's Hall is to play host to a group called Gigspanner Big Band, a group of folk artists coming together to form a 'folk supergroup', on Sunday, May 1.

Members of the band are Steeleye Span fiddle player Peter Knight, percussionist Sacha Trochet and guitarist Roger Flack but has recently expanded to include acclaimed multi-instrumental duo Phillip Henry and Hannah Martin Edge from Edgelarks and Bellowhead co-founder and melodeon player extraordinaire, John Spiers.

The band is known for their high-energy, virtuosic performances that appeal equally to traditionalists.

fRoots, The Telegraph, and The Wire describe the group as ‘melodically folk-rooted yet open and innovative beyond the constraints of the genre’.

Speaking about coming to Hexham, Peter Knight said: "We are looking foward to coming to Hexham to play. It should be a great night of music."
