A MEET-UP of people dressed in colourful and extravagant outfits will take place this weekend to raise money for Ukraine.

The first 'Colourful Corbridge' event will take place on Saturday, May 7 between 11am and 2pm at Corbridge Market Place and Tower Lane.

Hosted by Vintage at the Tower, Corbridge Larder and Forum Books, the event will raise funds for the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

Gayle Foster, who runs Vintage at the Tower, said they have taken inspiration for the event from the monthly colour walk at Old Spitalfields Market, which encourages people who love colour and dressing up to meet.

"We've taken their idea because we thought that would be a really great thing to happen up here," said Gayle. "It's just a joyful event."

Gayle hopes the event will take place on the first Saturday of each month in the village, and June's event will have a theme of 'Rule Britannia' to mark the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

She said after watching the Concert for Ukraine, they decided they could use the first event to raise money for those affected by the war.

"We're very lucky being able to do something like this when other people are suffering so it's nice to be able to give something back," said Gayle.

She added: "Quite a few people have said they're going to come along.

"A lot of the shopkeepers are going to dress up and do colourful window displays.

"As far as I know, we've had two Ukrainian families that have moved into the village so we're hoping they're going to come down as well for it."

Gayle said they are also hoping to have live music and face painting at the event.
