This traditional country pub was selected as one of the best places for pub grub. "Really lovely, food was excellent, really calm atmosphere. So wished we had found this gem of a pub and restaurant sooner," one Facebook review said. 2. The County Hotel, Hexham

From sandwiches and wraps to chicken parmigiana and sausage and mash, there's plenty of options to get stuck in to. One reader said: "The County in Hexham is the best." Another said: "The service is second to none," as the team of chefs can tailor make orders to suit every dietary requirement.

3. The Red Lion, Newbrough 

A short drive from the centre of Hexham, the Red Lion has an outdoor seating area ideal for warmer nights. One Facebook review said: "Absolutely beautiful food and amazing service. 4. Carts Bog Inn, Langley

Located in Langley, the Carts Bog Inn has more than 30 Facebook reviews. One said: "The staff were very helpful and welcoming and the food was excellent and enjoyed by all." Another added: "Lovely food - a hidden gem. Highly recommend eating here when it's open." Some of the reviews praised the bartenders, value for money, and quality of food.

5. The Rose and Crown, Slaley 

Rated five stars on TripAdvisor for cleanliness, service, and as the pub's overall rating, it is widely recommended. One review said: "Vegetarian Lasagna was wonderful, garlic chicken was absolutely delicious. Staff were very friendly and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely visit again."
