Northumberland has a range of heritage spots worth a trip, including Belsay Hall and Kielder.

Also known as The International Day for Monuments and Sites, World Heritage Day was set up in 1982 by UNESCO's General Conference to celebrate the best of culture on a global scale.

Kielder Water and Forest Park is one heritage site with a lot to offer. It has an observatory, forest and reservoir, along with some of Northumberland's best dark skies. Try a range of water sports at the reservoir, or test out a telescope at the observatory to enjoy the stars.

The zoo promotes education on wild animals and their natural habitats, from Asian Leopard Cats to Pygmy Marmosets. There are also Zoo Keeper Experiences and Animal Experiences with meerkats, lemurs, squirrel monkeys or reptiles for visitors to learn about caring for the animals.

Hadrian's Wall is one of the top heritage experiences in Northumberland. Spanning 73 miles, the Wall was built by the Roman Emperor Hadrian in 17AD to guard Roman territories from being attacked. The Wall is lined with remnants of fortresses, including Housesteads and Chesters Roman Fort.

Belsay Hall, Gardens and Castle has plenty to see. There are 30 acres of land which house a Quarry Garden inspired by worldwide travels and one of the largest Rhododendron gardens in the country. The medieval castle provides an opportunity to learn about the castle's history in depth.

Aydon Castle is one of the finest examples of a 13th century English manor house, and is located one mile from the Roman village of Corbridge. Explore the woodland surroundings and the history of the manor house, before taking a break in the walled orchard.
