A PRUDHOE school has been judged as having the best Year 4 gymnastics team in the county at the Northumberland School Games.

Pupils at Prudhoe West Academy competed against a number of other schools before taking the top spot in the county gymnastic finals.

The team performed virtually and routines were judged by two different judges.

Six of the school's students won the competition's first stage, while the other six children came in at third place.

The school went on to qualify for the final, along with Sele First School, Hexham, which would see them compete against nine other teams who had also placed first or runner up. One pupil also competed in the individual competition.

The school's success was made all the more special as team member Jake was the first boy to win with Prudhoe West in 12 years. He said: "I am so proud of the team and being the first boy. I really hope I can inspire some of the younger boys in school to give gymnastics a try."
