A NEW carers group has launched in Prudhoe.

The Carers Northumberland group will meet on the second Thursday of each month from April 14.

The group will offer carers a chance to meet new people, share advice and access support.

Carers will meet at 10.30am at The Manors - an assisted living facility - on the town's Adderlane Road, West Wylam.

"It is always great to gain the support of a partner agency who can support us, as a charity, our funds are, of course, limited and having free space to hold our groups is so valuable", said a Carers Northumberland spokeswoman.

" The Manors is a great location for our group, with a lovely welcoming lounge and excellent café on site. We are really hopeful that this new group will be a great success.

"It is so important that carers can take a break from their caring role, have some time for themselves and meet other people in similar situations."

The charity runs groups across the county with the aim of providing groups to as many local people as possible close to their homes.

A spokeswoman for The Manors added: “As well as providing good quality homes, at Karbon, we’re passionate about supporting our residents and members of the local community to live happily and independently.

“Carers Northumberland is a fantastic group which recognises and celebrates the incredible work of unpaid carers, and we were keen to support their work in any way we could.

"The group gives members an opportunity to come together and have some much-deserved time to themselves.

“Since inviting them to use our day room for meetings, it’s been fantastic to watch the group grow from strength to strength.

"We’ve seen first-hand on many occasions, the positive impact this support can have on those who attend and long may it continue.”
