Northumbrian Water responded to a call out of an overflowing drain on Eastwoods Road in Prudhoe, on Tuesday March 22.

The incident was highlighted to the water company at 5.23pm via Twitter by County Cllr Gordon Stewart who represents Prudhoe South.

Northumbria Water sent a team out shortly after being notified and quickly fixed the problem before 9pm.

A spokesperson for Northumbrian Water said: “Last night, we were made aware of an overflowing drain on Eastwoods Road in Prudhoe.

“Our teams attended quickly, unblocked the sewer and carried out a clean-up before 9pm.

“We will be attending again today to carry out some additional checks to ensure the area is still clean and we will continue to monitor this drain.

“We will also be carrying out further investigations into the cause of the issue, and will be doing further remedial work in the area.

“We would like to thank the councillor for reporting this, and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Cllr Gordon Stewart said : "This issues occurs on a infrequent basis, NCC are working with Northumbrian Water to deal with this current issue and hopefully ensure there are no further incidents in the future, I thank the residents for alerting me to this."
