A man is to compete in three marathons to help raise money for Northumberland National Park Moutain Rescue Team.

Volunteer Mountain Rescue team member Mark Russell, 51, of Stocksfield, who also owns New Ridley Road Garage in Stocksfield, is hoping to complete three marathons to raise money and awareness for the service.

"They are a volunteer service and they give up their time for search and rescue throughout Northumberland and beyond, they rely totally on donations to fund the service," Mark said.

Mark has already tackled his first marathon tthe 'Montane Cheviot Goat', which he had found quite difficult.

He said: " It was the toughest race I've ever done. 57.5 miles and over 13000ft of elevation. Took a little over 21 hours to complete but I made it."

Mark has already raised £270 on his Just Giving Page and will compete in the 'Hardmoors 55' race on March 26, followed by the week after by in the 'Lakes Traverse' race.
