Non-profit, voluntary groups and schools are a few of many to receive funds to help celebrate Queen's Jubilee.

Northumberland County Council (NCC) have announced that they will lunch a fund called Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Fund.

It will be given out to help communities celebrate the historic occasion during 2022.

The aim of the fund will help non-profit making community and voluntary groups, schools, parish councils and local charities within Northumberland to apply for a one-off grant.

The NCC hope that this will help them with the costs of marking this historic event, of her Majesty, The Queen, becoming the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, commemorating 70 years of service.

The council have set a large sum of £70,000 to be allocated to help communities across Northumberland celebrate this special event and the maximum grant available is £500 and no matched funding is required.

Grants will be allocated in monthly rounds until the budget is fully allocated.

The grant could be used for a wide range of activities, including street entertainment, contributing towards a Jubilee Beacon, hospitality or long-lasting commemorative schemes.

Northumberland County Council’s cabinet member for culture, Cllr Jeff Watson, said: “Many of us have very happy memories of the fantastic street parties and events laid on for the Queen’s Silver Jubilee, with communities and all generations coming together to celebrate.

“We want to repeat this British pride and spirit for the Platinum Jubilee and encourage everyone to get involved.

“The Queen is a remarkable woman who brings a unifying influence on our country. We hope this fund will help and encourage communities to come together and lay on celebratory events to mark this momentous occasion.”

The criteria of the grants are that projects and activities should be for the benefit of the wider community.

Commemorative or celebratory events are encouraged to take place during The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee extended Bank Holiday weekend of 2 June 2022 to 5 June 2022 but supported activities can take place throughout the year.

All project activity must be completed by 31st December 2022.
