Vallum Farm is a natural oasis of calm, which is perhaps why it has attracted so many couples to its wedding venue over the past 5 years.

Vicky Moffit had been catering weddings at Vallum in and around Northumberland when she decided to build a permanent marquee inside the Straw Barn at Vallum.

It is stunning, the huge view out over the kitchen gardens and lake can be absorbed from the long deck and wedding lawn. You breathe and relax…it is just so pretty.

The lawn is surrounded by swaying willow and the Tipi is just the bomb! Designed by Laura Brown interiors who are also based on the farm, Vicky said:

“We gather guests in the Tipi before the ceremony and then spill back out there for drinks and canapes. It’s the sort of space people are drawn to. Laura has used velvets on the benches and built a unique bar to make the space feel sumptuous. The fire pit and fairy lights make it magical, a lot of couples are sold on us because of the tipi!

“The outdoor deck, lawn and tipi perfectly compliment the large marquee built within what was the straw barn. Swagged in white satin and more festoons the formal marquee feel is contrasted by a full-size shipping container bar and snug and the use of scaffold boards to give a contemporary space. Windows run the length of the deck so even when you are inside, you still absorb that gorgeous view!”

Vicky said: “our couples come in and go ‘wow’ the marquee is so unexpected.  We have had quite a few people get very emotional the first time they walk in. It is such a special place we have here, the vibe is farmy and cool. As a team, we are relaxed but highly organised. It’s a lovely job to have and I think that comes across when we meet couples. We are pretty obsessed with food here and once we start talking menus that is pretty much the tipping point. Guests rave about the food and I know our supplier North Acomb Farm have wedding guests heading up there to buy their pork and beef!

Because couples consistently say our venue looks good online but even better in real life, we had a video made by the Courant during lockdown. It was a great idea at a time when it was tricky for couples to visit in person. It has been brilliant for helping couples get a sense of what we have to offer here.

There is no wonder Vallum is so popular. It is one of a kind and you get a sense that with Vicky you are in safe hands.”
