A BOUTIQUE hotel has temporarily closed its doors while it undergoes renovation.

Walwick Hall Hotel said on social media they are undergoing "a number of renovations to breathe new life" into the hotel.

The Humshaugh hotel opened in 2016 after 18 months of extensive renovation to turn the 18th century Grade II listed stately home into a country hotel.

The building had stood empty for a number of years and fallen into a poor state of repair.

The luxury hotel, set in 100 acres, has 10 bedrooms, a restaurant, bar, spa, and gym.

The hotel said they will be re-opening on Tuesday, February 1, while their spa will be open for treatments from Monday, January 17.

Chesters Stables, the estate's self-catering suites, remain open as normal.

The stables, built in 1891, were transformed into seven holiday lets in 2018.

In 2020, the Walwick Estate Group, who own the Walwick Hall Hotel, purchased Matfen Hall for an undisclosed amount.
