Children at a village first are enjoying some new books bought after a sponsored reading challenge.

Staff and pupils from Acomb First School used the money raised from their fundraising event to buy some new literature.

A spokesperson from the school said: “Pupils across school took part in a sponsored read over the course of one week to raise funds for new reading books,.

"All pupils participated with dedication and friends and family donated generously.

“The total amount of sponsorship money raised was then supplemented by an additional 60 per cent extra in free books enabling school to order £2,064 worth of Usborne books.

"The event was led by the PTA in conjunction with Karen Ewen, an independent Usborne partner.”

Karen said: “It was a real privilege to work with Acomb First School and their PTA to help run a sponsored reading event with Karen’s Little Bookshop.

"The amount they raised was absolutely incredible – an amazing achievement by the pupils and their families. As a teacher myself I know the value of having high quality books in school, so it’s wonderful to be able to help schools boost their reading resources without spending a penny of their budget.”
