PLANS are in place which will the soft play area of Hexham leisure centre transformed.

The children's play area at Wentworth Sports and Leisure Centre is set for new equipment, including tunnels, slides and obstacles, and a new design providing a fun and interactive area for small children to play safely.

The adjacent café area will also be refurbished.

Work is due to start in spring 2022 and the soft play area will remain closed until it is complete.

It comes as part of a further programme of work to upgrade facilities at the leisure centre.

“The centre has already had a fantastic, new, state-of-the art gym installed, a new HIVE café selling delicious food and a new reception area and refurbished changing facilities", said Mark Warnes, chief executive of Active Northumberland.

“The new soft play area will provide a great place for parents to come to keep their little ones entertained and blow off some excess energy.

"The work is currently being planned and will take a few months to complete, but we wanted to keep local residents up to date with our future plans for the centre.

“In the meantime, Active Northumberland has some amazing soft play spaces at Prudhoe Waterworld, the new Ponteland Sports Centre and further afield at Concordia, Blyth and Alnwick which are available for use while the work is carried out.”
