AS festive party nights get into full swing, here at The Hexham Courant we want to make sure you soak up as much Christmas fun as possible.

Here are our pick of events this weekend.

1. What? Christmas party nights

When? December 17 and 18

Where? The Falcon

Throughout December the popular pub has hosted disco nights and live music acts, with its last two sessions this weekend.

Live music with Shona is on Friday's offering and a disco night with music from the 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s will run on Saturday.

2. What? Bellingham Christmas Market

When? Saturday, December 18

Where? Bellingham Town Hall

There will be a special Christmas edition of Bellingham's monthly Indoor Market, with a mix of stalls to grab those last-minute gifts as well as something for yourself.

3. What: Stargazing

When: December 18

Where: Twice Brewed Inn

A family-friendly stargazing session will run from 6pm to 7.30pm.

Talks are suitable for beginners and children.

Each family will have their own telescope.

The events are shorter than normal so families can enjoy a meal afterwards or a stay.

4. What? The Remarkable Robin Armstrong’s Extraordinary Christmas Adventure

When? Friday 10 - Tuesday December 28

Where? Queen’s Hall Arts Centre

The Queen’s Hall Christmas production this year is about an adventurous young girl called Robin Armstrong, who is obsessed with all things magic and lives in a northern mining village famous for its fairy tale and folklore.

5. What? Ponteland Market

When? Sunday December 19.

Where? Dobbies Garden Centre

What? Fresh, Last market of 2021, there will be seasonable fruit & vegetables, Northumbrian reared meat. Local artists, makers & producers. Hot and cold food drinks available. Free entry and parking on site. It is pet friendly and wheelchair accessible.

6. What? Christmas Extravaganza at Newcastle Cathedral

When? Saturday, December 18 7.30pm-10pm

Where? Newcastle Cathedral Head to a gala concert of traditional Christmas favourites from both the Cathedral Choir and guest instrumentalists. There will be an opportunity for the audience to sing along too! Tickets are £15

7. What? Viking Christmas show with live music

When? Saturday 18/12/2021 to Tuesday 28/12/2021

Where? Alnwick Playhouse, Alnwick, NE66 1PQ

A show about a magical, mythical tale from the frozen land of the Nordic Kings, evil wizards and the Great Warriors of the Kingdom of Northumbria. Suitable for all the family.

8. What? Pantomime

Where? Theatre Royal, Newcastle

When? Until January 9

The performance stars panto favourites Danny Adams, Clive Webb and Chris Hayward. Former X Factor star Joe McElderry also joins the cast, alongside Mick Potts and Carole Stennett.

The family show promises bangs and flashes, a couple of scary moments, a bit of panto innuendo– and some very old jokes, the website says.

9. What? Ice skating

Where? Manor Walks Shopping and Leisure, Cramlington

When? 11am - 9pm daily from 2nd December 2021 - 2nd January 2022

Ice skating session will last for 60 minutes

Grab your skates and enjoy the open air ice rink, it’s the perfect day out with friends and family.

10. What? Make your own Natural Christmas Decorations

When? Saturday, December 18

Where? The Sill: National Landscape Discovery Centre Learn how to make simple decorations for your home this Christmas using eco-friendly materials. Tuition, materials and equipment are all provided. Booking is essential
