MORE than 90 local jobs have been filled since a fast food giant opened in Prudhoe.

McDonald's opened on the Tyne View Retail Park this summer, joining high-street retailer B&M Bargains, discount supermarket Aldi, Greggs, local coffee firm Caffe Ginevra and BJC Bathrooms and Kitchens.

The Prudhoe branch of McDonald's - Tynedale's first - has provided 96 new jobs for locals.

MP Guy Opperman has joined Prudhoe South County Councillor Gordon Stewart to visit the site and meet staff.

"It was brilliant to meet with the new staff at McDonald's in Prudhoe", said Mr Opperman. "Prudhoe matters and this investment in our community is good news.

"Jobs will be vital to Tynedale’s recovery from Covid. Please do take the opportunity to visit the new McDonald's and support investment in our area!"

Coun. Stewart added: "I am delighted another well known brand has been attracted to Prudhoe.

"I have been working closely with the McDonalds team and our DWP Job Centre partners determined that as many of the staff who are employed at this restaurant are from the local area, bringing many benefits for the company, their staff and the wider Prudhoe community."

Work is underway which will see a McDonald's branch built at the bunker site in Hexham, Alemouth Road. It is expected to create up to 35 full time roles, as well as a further 30 part-time positions.
