WITH Christmas just two weeks away, much attention is on one of the most popular parts of the day - the food!

We asked readers of the Hexham Courant online where the best place to get a turkey in Northumberland is, here’s where you recommended:

Robson & Sons, 2 Meal Market, Hexham

The well-established, family butchers has been trading for more than 100 years and is home to the award-winning Hexhamshire sausage.

Unfortunately, the popular butchers has confirmed its deadline for orders has already passed.

Courant reader Julie Henricks was full of praise for its produce. She said: “Robson & Sons, get mine there every year and have never tasted anything like them.”

North Acomb Farm Shop, Stocksfield

Established in 1978, the family run farm and shop was a hit with readers, including Gayle Baty.

Brocksbushes Farm, Corbridge

The visitor attraction, formerly a finalist in the Farm Retail Awards, was a hit with Janet Kidd.

“You can get everything you need for your perfect day”, she said.

Grants Family and Catering Butchers/Grants Event Catering, Prudhoe

The company says it prides itself with providing customers with the finest quality, fresh meat, cheese, pies and great customer service.

Hexham Courant reader Susie Laws said: “We get one every year and they’re great!”

Billy Bells, Main Street, Haltwhistle

One of the oldest businesses in the town, Billy Bell Fish Game & Poultry was nominated for MP Guy Opperman’s Small Business Award by local residents recognising its efforts during the covid pandemic.

The business is run by father and son Miles and Cameron Bell, alongside a dedicated team of eight staff, and sells pies, fish and other baked goods - both sweet and savoury.

Hexham Courant reader Abbie Macdonald gave the independent her seal of approval.

Cranstons Butchers, 7 Cattle Market, Hexham

Back in October, the popular butchers reassured customers traditional Christmas dinners would not be cancelled due to national food shortages.

As far as they are concerned, turkeys and pigs in blankets will be on tables this festive season.

The business’ deadline for turkey orders is December 15.

Courant reader Claire Kane said: “I get mine from Cranstons every year.”

Tesco Extra, Tynedale Retail Park, Alemouth Road, Hexham

Getting everything under one roof can save the stresses of shopping but still pack a flavour punch.

“Tesco, they all taste the same. It’s the way it’s cooked that matters”, said Courant reader Richard Lockey.

Hugh Thompson Butchers and WMH Quality Farm Fresh Meats & Hogroasts do not have ordering deadlines.
