THE public are being invited to share their views on a village development plan.

Haydon Parish Council has engaged with the local community to produce the plan which addresses issues local people have identified as important in their area.

The Neighbourhood Plan has now been submitted to Northumberland County Council to go through the consultation process and any person or organisation may comment on it or supporting documents until 5pm on Wednesday, January 12.

Once a neighbourhood plan is formally approved, decisions on planning applications will be made using both the council's local plan and the neighbourhood plan, and any other material considerations.

Rob Murfin, interim executive director of planning and local services at Northumberland County Council, said: “Neighbourhood planning enables communities to play a much stronger role in shaping the areas in which they live and work and in influencing the location and design of development proposals.

“Finding out how local people want their area to develop in the future is vitally important to ensure the plan reflects local character and aspiration.

“We therefore hope people will participate in this consultation to ensure the policies contained in the Neighbourhood Plan are right for Haydon.”
