STRONG wind and rain has seen buildings damaged.

Parts of Northumberland and the North-East have also been blanketed by snow after a red 'risk to life' weather warning for Storm Arwen.

Some residents are still without power and water.

The extreme weather has seen some events cancelled.

A Northumberland County Councillor is reminding people to take care when outside.

Coun. Gordon Stewart, who represents Prudhoe South, said: "We have some of the most beautiful woodland in the country, and these have been enjoyed by more people than ever since the pandemic.

"Many urban and rural woods have been severely damaged, if not destroyed, and I ask residents and visitors to take extra care whilst accessing them until the landowners have had time to deal with any issues. This may mean that footpaths are no longer available with walkers finding alternative areas to visit - its better to be safe than sorry."

He added: "Teams have been working extremely hard and will continue to do so over the next few weeks dealing with fallen or damaged trees, and I am grateful for their quick response."
