The Mayor of Hexham confirms that the Hexham Lights are to go-ahead this evening, 'regardless of the weather'.

Derek Kennedy posted on social media to set many residents and visitors fears to rest after many thought it had been cancelled.

The Mayor of Hexham said: " The event is definetly going ahead as planned.

"Santa has not cancelled, so neither will we, the lights will go on regardless of the weather.
"I looking forward to seeing everyone."

Although the lights will go ahead, Hexham Abbey have announced they will not be serving hot chocolate in the Abbey afterwards. 

The event at 4:30 with a band playing at the bandstand, followed by the lights being turned on at 5.00pm. There will also be a second countdown at the tree outside the Hexham Abbey approximately 10 minutes later.
