A 15-YEAR-OLD bike track has been transformed back to its ‘former glory’.

A bike track on Haltwhistle's Burn Field Village Green has been revamped to look like its original state 15 years ago.

It has been updated after the original surface was worn away and had been replaced by grass.

The centre contracted Stephen Ferguson contracted to undertake the work.

The bike track was first created by Volunteering Tynedale & Haltwhistle Partnership but is now owned by Haltwhistle Social Welfare Centre, which is in association with Haltwhistle Town Council.

One of the volunteers from Volunteering Tynedale & Haltwhistle Claire Heaviside celebrated the restoration on social media when she visited on November 21.

She said “It is great to see kids today, with a dad supervising, enjoying the restored BMX track we, the Volunteering Tynedale & Haltwhistle Partnership, created over 15 years ago.”

She later thanked the council and said: “Thanks to Haltwhistle Town Council for finding the funding to pay Stephen Ferguson to reinstate it - he’s done an excellent job.

“The kids are loving it”

Members of the community have showed praise on the transformed BMX track.

Lucy Howard said: “It is great to see it been restored. My kids loved it there when they were little.”

Gemma Schollick also agrees with Lucy and recalls how long her children stayed at the track on a day that they visited.

She said: “It was dark when the boys eventually left to come home.”

Additionally, Ayesha Jackson and Ebony Newton described it as 'amazing'.

It has even lead to some residents asking where it is so they can find it.

Haltwhistle Town councillor Terry Christie said: “There is money in a fund left over from the original track work and ringfenced for improvements along with a grant from the Community chest, NCC.

"The town council are paying the balance for the work.

“As a Town Council we are delighted that we were able to carry out this work and to see the BMX track restored to its former glory."
