GOLF-MAD brides and grooms could soon have the chance to tie the knot in a venue named after one of Britain’s players.

Close House Golf Club, in Heddon-on-the-Wall, has submitted plans to Northumberland County Council to be granted permission to conduct weddings.

If approved, it could mean couples saying “I do” with up to 120 guests in the venue’s Westwood Suite or, for a more intimate ceremony, up to 50 people in the British Masters Suite.

Lee Westwood, who in 2010 famously replaced Tiger Woods as number one in golf’s world rankings, has been the ‘attached tour professional’ at Close House since 2011.

The venue hosted the British Masters event in 2017 and again in 2020, when it became one of the first golfing events to return after the end of Covid-19 restrictions.

Halton Grove, near Corbridge, which had its planning permission granted earlier this year despite road safety concerns, has also now requested the site be approved for the “solemnisation of civil marriages and the formation of civil partnerships”.

If approved, it would have capacity for up to 200 people in its planned ceremony room, wedding breakfast Room and arbour.

Members of the public have until October 29 to submit any comments on the plans for Close House Golf Club.

Consultation on proposals for Halton Grove will close on November 9.
