THE countdown is on until the long-awaited return of The Northumberland County show.

Lockdown restrictions have forced the cancellation of the much-loved show for the past two years but the Tynedale Agricultural Society have announced the date of its return in 2022.

Organiser Judy Willis said: "We have just returned this month so it is great to see everyone and it is great to be back to preparing the show.

"It will be a big event. We have not ran it for two years so we are looking forward to promoting agriculture and farmers. It will be a great show as we are aiming to show thanks to local businesses and key workers who have helped a lot of people during Covid."

It will return to the fields at Bywell on Friday June 3 and will form part of The Queen's Platinum Jubilee weekend.

There will be attractions, competitions, food, crafts, shopping and animals galore.

Cath Homer, county councillor for Hexham East, said: "It's fantastic news that the County Show is back for 2022.

"It's a huge event that people look forward to in the Northumberland calendar and a great opportunity for people across the county to show just what's great about Northumberland."

Additionally Haltwhistle Councillor Ian Hutchinson also adds: "It is fantastic that the show is back and that is it going ahead after not being on for so long.

I know as a farmer and going myself to shows in the past how big the show is. It is amazing how many people go and support local farmers and businesses. It will be great to show everyone Northumberland produce and great local businesses."
