DETAILS of a new housing scheme in Hexham, set to be built on the site of the former swimming pool, have been revealed.

The development by Willow Homes will see 45 contemporary, new-build apartments built on the Gilesgate site. The pool was formerly a wool warehouse, which has inspired the development's ‘the Wool House’ name.

Willow Homes director, Bob Skelly, said: “We appointed the Hexham-based, YoungsRPS some time ago as selling agent because of their excellent reputation and area knowledge.

"They have already amassed a long list of interested buyers – many of whom are people who have brought up their families or have retired and are looking for their last home.

“The location of the Wool House is key to this group of people who seek easy access to shopping facilities, excellent transport connections, good hospitals and a wide range of leisure and cultural amenities. In terms of location, the Wool House ticks all these boxes.

“Obviously, the Gilesgate location will also appeal to young professionals too for all the same reasons, with regular trains into Newcastle city centre, so we are quietly confident that the scheme will be another success story for Willow Homes as the Tyne Valley area is highly sought after as a place to live to suit all lifestyles."

The new apartments will be made up of five one-bedroom apartments, 33 two-bedroom apartments, two duplex apartments with balconies, two duplex apartments with office and cinema rooms and three two-bedroom penthouses with balconies, the accommodation is complemented by landscaped communal gardens and ample under croft and external car parking.

Kim Harrison, head of residential at YoungsRPS in Hexham, said: “The volume of interest in the properties has been phenomenal. The Wool House will offer buyers a choice of apartment types and layouts in a superb location close to all amenities within an historic market town.

“We are already accepting expressions of interest and in early 2022 expect to formerly launch the development with a show flat.”
