A HEXHAM hotel has been named as one of the best in the country.

The Sunday Times has revealed its 100 best British hotels, and The Beaumont is featured.

The hotel and restaurant have undergone extensive refurbishment since it was took over by Roger and Magda Davy in 2016.

In their review, The Sunday Times said: "Opposite the park and down the road from Hexham's 7th-century abbey, the Beaumont has been around for more than 120 years - the townhouse was originally built as a temperance hotel.

"It champions British produce - the food comes from an open kitchen where you can see Nathan Harwood serving platters of Lindisfarne oysters.

"The 33 rooms are kitted out in floral wallpaper and fabrics with horsemen and willow trees, from a local design house. Vintage armoires complete the look."

Roger said they were very pleased to be included on the list.
