IT may not be on the scale of a Euromillions’ win but is nevertheless a welcome return for the investors in the monthly Town Hall 200+ Draw. The October winners were 1st Ralph Telfer, 2nd Dorothy Bowman and 3rd Pam Wilson. I did warn you that you shouldn’t leave buying your tickets for the concert featuring the Proper Boys until the last minute. True to form, Saturday’s event was a sell-out with latecomers having to hope for returns in the preceding week.

SOFT Play Sessions for local families are planned for the Town Hall on November 6 and December 4 from 10- 11.30am. These are suitable for children under 5 years who must be accompanied by a parent or appropriate guardian. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided.

THERE have been no games on the cricket pitch for some years, but I reported ground maintenance activities a few weeks ago. It is good to see both of our parish councils working together to finance the reseeding of the square for next season. Newbrough used to boast an all-conquering XI so let us hope that this is the first sign of a rebirth.

WARDEN Parish Council has submitted its desired projects for inclusion in the County Council’s Local Transport Plan. The jagged edges on the sharp bend on the road between Walwick Grange and Fourstones feature yet again as does a speed limit from Quality Cottages to the railway crossing and the provision of a footpath from the Paper Mill to Hardhaugh.

PLANS are afoot to mount a spectacular production in the Commemoration Hall to mark its centenary on or around December 30 this year. Denis Lumley, the star producer, is keen to meet up with anyone who might like to take part – or even to assist behind the scenes – on Thursday, November 4 in the hall at 7pm. So … if can you sing (roughly in tune), dance, perform magic tricks, play an instrument, tell jokes, please think about coming along. It really doesn’t matter if you haven’t done anything like this before, it’s talent that matters – however raw(!). If the idea appeals – even sort of – and you can’t make that date, please get in touch with Pat Wilson. She’ll be thrilled to hear from you: patwilson28@outlook.com

LADYCROSS Nature Reserve AGM is on Thursday, November 18 at 6.30pm in the Commemoration Hall. The reserve has managed to get some trees to replace those lost from the avenue there. They’ll arrive next month, but need volunteers to help plant them. Can you help? If you can, please contact Joan, she’ll be only too delighted to hear from you: jjewitt245@btinternet.com

BUT – before all this, please don’t forget the next Artisan market at the Commem Hall in the afternoon of October 27, with the Fire & Dough Pizza Van there too from 5pm. And there’s the History Club by Zoom on October 25 at 7.30pm - a talk by Steve Watts, on Beaufront Castle. Please email Pat Wilson for a link.

I WAS delighted that the Courant wrote such a lovely piece about Suzie White and her competition success riding her home-bred horse she calls "Dids". Anyone who has ridden a horse will know their success has only come from a huge amount of dedication, determination and patience, not only from the winning pair but also from her family and teammates. Huge congratulations from your 'Shire supporters Suzie - we are looking forward to watching your certain progress in the future!

WHITLEY Chapel Young Farmers are hosting a quiz night on November 13 at 7.30PM in Whitley Chapel Parish Hall. Teams are invited of up to 6 people. There will be refreshments and a bar; a real bargain at £5. Funds raised will go towards the refurbishment of the toilets planned to start in January. For tickets contact Dan on 07800932956.

THERE will also be a Christmas Fair on Sunday, December 5 between 10.30am and 2.30pm. All the stall places have been booked already, but the variety of crafts, gift items and seasonal foods look as if this will be an ideal opportunity to kick start the Christmas spirit!
