Northumbria Healthcare Trust was caring for 53 coronavirus patients in hospital as of Tuesday, figures show.

NHS England data shows the number of people being treated in hospital for Covid-19 by 8am on October 12 was up from 51 on the same day the previous week.

The same figures show that The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals Trust was caring for 72 coronavirus patients in hospital as of Tuesday.

The number of beds at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust occupied by people who tested positive for Covid-19 increased by 39% in the last four weeks – 28 days ago, there were 38.

Across England there were 5,213 people in hospital with Covid as of October 12, with 657 of them in mechanical ventilation beds.

The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalised nationally has decreased by 18% in the last four weeks, while the number on mechanical ventilators has decreased by 26%.

The figures also show that 63 new Covid patients were admitted to hospital in Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust in the week to October 10. This was up from 53 in the previous seven days.

Latest Covid figures for Northumberland show that two more people have died and there has been a further 327 Covid cases recorded.

A total of 39,048 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 in Northumberland when the UK coronavirus daily dashboard was updated on October 14 (Thursday), up from 38,721 on Wednesday.
