Tynedale Lions are encouraging people to get regular eye tests on World Sight Day today (October 14).

The Lions' Ian Cave said: "Many people don't actually realise their sight is deteriorating.

"They sit nearer and nearer to the TV or struggle with reading the newspaper until they are only looking at the headlines or they give up reading altogether."

He added: "It is important for everyone to get regular eye tests to ensure changes in our eyesight and important health markers are picked up."

The registered charity support The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association and the Northumberland County Blind Association.
