A daughter is raising money to say 'thank you' to charity for looking after her mother.

Elena Grace Mountford, 35, is hoping to raise 5,000 for the Hexham Oncology Fund by completing 5 marathons in 5 days.

She said:"I’m doing the charity event as a thank you for all that the oncology department has done for my mum throughout her treatment and the way she was treated by all the staff, and I hope that all money raised will help make treatment easier and more bearable in the future."

Elena is originally from Romania and was adopted at the age of 6-years-old. She is in the British Army, the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, as a metalsmith a welder. The army charity will also be benefitting from the money raised by the marathons.

She said:"Money raised will go to the Hexham Oncology Charitable Fund, for any equipment they need and things to make being there more comfortable for patients, their relatives and staff. With a small donation to the REME Charity who have helped and supported me through this challenge.

Elena will be completing the marathons between 10-14 October.
