Hexham 3-0 Hebburn

Hexham made it three wins on the bounce as they took all the points in an entertaining game at Wentworth.

With Hebburn sitting with a 100 per cent record at the top of the league, Hexham knew it was going to be a tough ask.

After weathering an early Hebburn onslaught, Hexham managed to get a foothold in the game, and went on to dominate.

Matthew Nesti had Hexham’s first chance, but his penalty crashed into the bar and fell safe.

Will Turnbull didn’t miss from his set play however. Turnbull fired Hexham in front from a free kick from 30 yards out. Beating the wall, the swerving drive wrong footed the keeper and crashed into the middle of the net.

With tempers fraying towards the end of the half, Hexham knew that there would be another serge from Hebburn after the restart.

However the defending from Ollie Scott, Will Turnbull, Gabriel Wells-Johnson and Mark Hodgson saw keeper Nathan Byerly rarely challenged.

Hexham were able to double their lead midway into the second half. Substitute Max Kings was found brilliantly in the box by Fin Marsden’s right footed cross. Kings made no mistake and finished with aplomb into the corner of the net.

Marsden then got himself on the scoresheet, racing free on a counter attack after being found by man of the match, Will Burns.

Burns had another excellent display in the middle of midfield and was ran close for man of the match by Jamie Connor, who ran tirelessly up front.

The newly formed U23 now sit top of the league after five games played.
