READERS of the Hexham Courant online have taken to social media to share their views on the news Aldi has applied to extend its opening hours.
The discount supermarket could see its trading hours amended to between 6am-midnight seven days a week in Hexham, Cramlington, Ashington and Blyth.
The chain is also believed to have its eye on further expansion into Ponteland after a branch recently opened at Prudhoe's Tyneview Retail Park.
Kev Lee said: "Bring it on."
Linda Christine Smart, however, said: "Seven days a week. What about Sunday trading laws?"
Guy Galpin added: "What about the staff who have to work those hours?"
Paul Cross described the plans as a "good idea." He said: "Hire more staff and gives more availability in the evenings. I'd scrap Sunday trading too."
An Aldi spokesperson said: “There are no plans to make permanent changes to the opening hours of our Northumberland stores. The licensing applications are to give stores flexibility during seasonal periods.”
