WHERE there is cake and coffee, there are people ... and lots of them!

So it is especially great when some of life’s smallest pleasures can also support worthy causes.

Macmillan’s Coffee Morning is the charity’s biggest fundraising event and supports people living with cancer.

The popular events are hosted across the UK, whether it be in community halls, schools or workplaces, with all donations raised on the day going directly to Macmillan.

This year’s official date was Friday, September 24, but the popular fundraising events can be held at virtually anytime, in person or even virtually.

We take a look back at some of the many times the good folk of Tynedale have dug deep to support the much-needed resource.

The first Macmillan Coffee Morning was held in 1990. It was a rather small affair, said the charity, with a simple idea: guests would gather over coffee and donate the cost of their cuppa to Macmillan in the process.

Since then, the far-reaching events have raised over £290 million for the charity which helps people living with cancer and their families.
