A Northumberland primary school have been successful at two awards ceremonies.

Allendale Primary school was named as The Modeshift Stars North East School of the region 2021.

The Modeshift Stars programme celebrates the school's sustainable and active travel initiatives in promoting walking, cycling and scooting to and from school.

Headteacher Alison Hawkins, was delighted, saying: "We are thrilled that the awards recognise the efforts the families have made to be active on their journeys.

"It is encouraging that so many children choose to walk, cycle or scoot to school – being physically active is so important for their physical and mental health".

The school was then successful at the Love Northumberland Awards held at the Alnwick Garden.

Again this award recognised the school's work on sustainable travel, especially in providing scooter training for KS1 pupils and cycle training for Years 5 and 6.

Three Year 6 pupils accompanied the headteacher to the awards ceremony where they were presented with their award by the Duchess of Northumberland.

A spokesperson at the school said: "The school was put forward by the Northumberland County Council due to their success of the school's work on sustainable travel, especially in providing scooter training for KS1 pupils and cycle training for Years 5 and 6."

In October the school will be actively taking part in walk to school month, so are looking forward to families enjoying walking, cycling or scooting on their journeys to and from school.
