A COMMEMORATIVE plaque that had first been installed in 1997 has been reinstated.

Christopher Hopper - an early pioneer of Methodism - first visited and preached in Allendale Market Place in 1747.

To this day, there are ruined and restored chapels throughout the Allen Valleys.

On Saturday, September 25, Mrs Evelyn Charlton unveiled a commemorative plaque that she had first installed 23 years ago in recognition of Hopper’s visit some 250 years before.

The plaque had been removed to allow the refurbishment of The Dale building. It had then been misplaced and later found; and has now been returned to its original position.

The unveiling was well attended and Mrs Charlton, who is an authority on the history on Methodism, delivered an interesting and informative talk on the subject.
