Stolen WW1 memorial found after over a decade

A World War One memorial that was stolen from a church back in 2008 has been found by police.

The battlefield cross has been missing for more than a decade after it was taken from the Church of St Michael and All Angels, Warden, near Hexham.

Queen Elizabeth High School and Hexham Middle School opens

THE doors of two Hexham schools on the same site opened on Monday welcoming pupils back for the first time since the summer break. 

Students from Queen Elizabeth High School and Hexham Middle School were due to return from the summer holidays on September 10 to the existing high school site which, following millions of pounds of investment, now houses new buildings and sports and leisure facilities for community use.

The opening was pushed back by ten days due to covid-enforced delays.

 

Hexham Carntyne Residential Care Home CQC rating now Good

A HEXHAM care home has improved and has been rated 'Good' after a recent inspection.

Hexham Carntyne Residential Care Home had been rated as requiring improvement by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following an inspection in April this year.

Ever-present runners gear up for 11th Kielder Marathon 2021

RUNNERS are gearing up for this year's Kielder Marathon.

And among those taking on the 11th Active Northumberland event are 19 stalwarts who have already tackled the course and beaten it 10 time before.

When the last of those 19 crosses the line, they will have achieved a combined 5,434 miles of Britain's Most Beautiful Marathon.

 

Hexham community stalwart celebrates 100th birthday

A woman who crocheted 100 poppies for an event in Hexham hit the centenary mark herself.

Vera Stonehouse has strong links to Hexham, as she regularly visits the town and get involved with community events as her grandson Chris Aitchson lives in the area.

She celebrated her 100th birthday but was humble about reaching the landmark.

 

Hexham Courant:

Plans are brewing to transform a former Northumberland brewery into housing.

Mr K Watson is behind plans to convert the former Wylam Brewery site on South Houghton Farm in  Heddon-On-The-Wall into 13 new homes.

His application to convert buildings on the site into six new homes along with erecting seven new builds was approved by Northumberland County Council last May.

Now, Mr Watson has asked for listed building consent to carry out the works.

 

Angry owners of caravans with removal plans from site

Owners of caravans have reacted furiously to plans for vans 25-years-old and over to be removed from a popular North Tyne site.

Hareshaw Linn Caravan Park, Bellingham, is managed by Horizon Holiday Parks, formerly Ward Leisure. It was put up for sale in 2018 by the Duke of Northumberland with a £1.4m price tag.

Sixteen site users now say they have been served an email informing them they must be off the site by January 31.
