Last Saturday (September 18) saw the return of Corsenside Parish Show after last year’s cancellation due to Covid-19.

Held in West Woodburn, the show was welcomed back by a happy crowd, keen to take part in the games and competitions.

The annual pairs quoits competition was won by Amy Brachtvogel and Gregg Smith.

Tables in the industrial tent were laden with home baking, needlework, photography, jams, flowers and children’s crafts.

Winning three trophies for leeks and vegetables was John Bassett and the show’s oldest participant, George Dent, won a trophy for his cactus dahlias. Mala Taberham won a trophy for her stunning vase of flowers and Carol Wood won the trophy for the best pot plant.

Caroline Currie won the award for best hand-knitted item for a premature baby, with all items being donated to Tiny Lives Trust at the RVI. Sylvia Lawson won the trophy for best lemon drizzle cake and Maureen Johnson won the trophy for most points in the adult industrial section.

Congratulations also go to Chloe Brent who won the Junior Cup.

Local schoolchildren Lucy Smith and Lucy Patterson ran a jewellery making stall and second-hand toy stall and made £84 for Bellingham Middle School PTCA. The tombola sold out within an hour and raised £95 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Revitalising Redesdale attended to talk about its work and encourage people to get involved in identifying and recording local wildlife.

Danny Findler, chairman of the show committee, said: “It was great to be able to hold the show again this year and it was an excellent day.

"Lots of people have commented on how pleased they were that it was able to go ahead and how lovely it was to catch up with people again and be able to enjoy a community event.

"The committee would like to say a huge thank you to all of the judges, volunteer helpers and everyone who went the extra mile to make sure the show went ahead. We all had a great day and look forward to being back next year.”
