SUSPECTED military helicopters have been heard across the district.

 

RAF Spadeadam issued a night flying announcement for Cumbria and Northumberland to alert residents the RAF Spadeadam range would be active for night flying on September 15 (up to 3am) through to September 16 up to 11pm.

Locals reported hearing the chinooks fly over Capheaton, Hallington, Lowgate, Woodburn, Acomb, Carlise and Brampton, as well as Bellingham earlier today (Friday).

A large-scale force exercise - Joint Warrior - is thought to be taking place across the north and Scotland. It is an opportunity for personnel across the Joint Helicopter Command to train its people and bring together members of the Royal Navy, RAF and British Army as well as forces from other nations, said RAF Odiham.
