A POPULAR takeaway is to take delivery of what is believed to be Hexham’s first e-cargo trike.

Oven and Grill, Battle Hill, will be able to carry out zero carbon deliveries and do its bit in keeping noisy, polluting petrol and diesel vehicles off the town’s streets.

Capable of holding 120kg of cargo, the bike was built by Hexham-based firm Northern Skunkworks Ltd and is the first of many now on offer to suit virtually any purpose.

Anyone over the age of 13 can ride an e-cargo bike; they are no different to riding a normal bike apart from this model does not tilt on corners as a conventional bike would.

The cargo trike which offers quiet, quick deliveries using its 250W motor and long-range battery is capable of assisting the rider up to 80 miles on one charge and costs just 12p to charge overnight.

Oven and Grill owner Moji Rezaie, who has recently removed almost all plastic from its packaging, said: “This is a further step in our commitment to serving excellent food to the residents of Hexham as sustainably as possible”.

The cargo trike has an insulated compartment to keep food warm, an LCD display showing range and battery charge and also a phone holder to allow the driver to receive sat nav instructions to each drop off point.

“Our mission is to become the number one supplier of e-bikes and e-cargo bikes in the UK”, said Geoff Wallman, owner of Northern Skunkworks. “Any local businesses interested in being part of our journey should follow or message us on Instagram (@northern_skunkworks.) Let us help provide you with zero carbon transport solutions for all your goods and services for a fraction of the cost of cars and vans”.

Oven and Grill is actively recruiting for a delivery rider and Northern Skunkworks has a current vacancy for an apprentice closing at the end of September. Anyone interested should apply direct to Oven and Grill for the rider position or through the TDR training website for the apprenticeship.
