The annual Mickley Leek Show held at Mickley and District Social Club last weekend has been deemed a great success.

Club members and the local community entered their leeks, vegetables, flowers and baking into the competition.

Local children were also encouraged to enter, with special categories such as ‘the best dressed vegetable’ and the best decorated biscuit.

Entries were judged independently before the community came to view the show on Saturday (September 11).

There was live entertainment and supper on the evening followed by an auction and raffle.

The winner of the leek entries was Gary Davison. John Frazer scooped second place and Gilbert Barker came third.

Oliver Ghani was the winner of the children’s category ‘best dressed vegetable’.

Gary and Oliver have both won consecutively for the last 4 years.

The leek club said due to Covid-19 restrictions earlier in the year, they were unable to raise funds in the usual way, with local businesses and Prudhoe Town Council stepping in to support the event.
