TODAY has marked the start of Project Edward which is a road safety initiative with the aim to help reduce death and serious injuries on the road.
The project will take place between 13-17 September under this year's theme which is 'Fit for the road'.
The UK wide road safety campaign is backed by the Government, emergency services, highways agencies, road safety organisations and British businesses.
In a tweet, this morning the Northumbria police road safety team said: "Project Edward road safety checks today reveal an HGV driving through the force area with a load on board not secured and free to move within the trailer, prohibition issues until made safe."
