A MAN was taken to hospital after suffering a neck injury at a cycling event yesterday.

North East Ambulance Service said they were called at 11.07am yesterday (Sunday) to reports of a person injured at a cycling event at Thorneyford Farm in Kirkley.

A spokesperson said: "We sent an emergency ambulance and our evacuation team who helped to access the male patient down steep terrain and took him to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle with a neck injury."
