Analysis of data from Companies House, which is the United Kingdom's registrar of companies and is an executive agency and trading fund of Her Majesty's Government, has revealed that 1,102 businesses were registered in Cumbria between January and June 2021, an increase of 18% from 2019.
Analysis of Companies House data reveals that over six new businesses were registered in Cumbria every day.
This sharp increase in the number of business registrations points to a rise in entrepreneurship as people reassess their work priorities, the number of people on furlough in Cumbria dropped by 73% over the first half of 2021, and by 60% across the North West, whilst many will have returned to their old jobs, the Companies House data suggests that a significant number have decided to start their own business.
