STAGE six of the Tour of Britain is set to wow audiences as they race through the stunning Northumberland countryside tomorrow.

Big names including Mark Cavendish will be riding in the event, with towns and villages en route preparing to welcome the boost the Tour brings.

The route will see cyclists ride from Carlisle to Gateshead, finishing at the Angel of the North.

Riders will pass through Hexham between 2pm and 3pm, with schoolchildren and residents out ready along the route waving their flags welcoming the riders to the town.

Here is a list of the estimated times the riders will pass through each zone:

Zone 1 - Allenheads to Sinderhope, 1.15pm to 2.15pm.

Zone 2 - Sinderhope to Catton incl Allendale, 1.30pm to 2.30pm.

Zone 3 - Catton to Hexham, 1.45pm to 2.45pm.

Zone 4 - Hexham to Corbidge incl Hexham, 2pm to 3pm.

Zone 5 - Corbidge to Stocksfield, 2.14pm to 3.15pm.

Zone 6 - Stockfield to Prudhoe incl Prudhoe 2.30pm to 3.30pm.

There are 20 teams in the race and each team will have six riders, in total there are 120 professionals in the race. Over the years World champions, Tour de France winners ad Olympians have all took part and completed the tour.

Cyclists will pass through the B6305 which goes right through Hexham, there will be many opportunities for people to go down and watch the event.

Due to the Covid-19 protocols in place during the 2021 tour, this year spectators will not be able to access the team paddock at the stages start and finish.

The event will be passing through Prudhoe where the third and final sprint will take place.
Preparation has already started in Northumberland to welcome the cyclists. In Prudhoe, signs have been put around the town informing residents of road closures on the day of the race.

During the event, racers will be accompanied by a support convoy which consists of police, National Escort Group, safety bikes, TV motorbikes, team cars, commissaries, judges and medical staff.

The race convoy will be split up ahead and at the back of the riders in order to facilitate safe riding throughout the race.
