CAFE owners in Haltwhistle celebrates their 13th year of taking over the business with cake and with many customers.

Owners of the Pillar Box,wife and husband,Cheryl Bone,33, and Matthew Bone,32, have been amazed with their customers help and support to reach their 13th year in business after taking it over from previous owners.

Cheryl said:"I was a regular at the cafe and I was always there for lunch. So when I saw it up for sale, I thought why not?"

When asked if they had done anything special for the 13th anniversary, it was treated like a normal day.

Mrs Bone said:"Although it was our 13th year, we could not celebrate very much, as it was still a normal day and we had customers. So I did what I do best and made every one cake, a Victorian sponge cake."

When asked about how they have been successful for 13 years, Cheryl said "We know our customers and we have learned that if you look after your regulars, they will look after you."

The cafe is open 7 days a week and also offers delivery services for those who cannot get out of the house. The cafe has delivered meals to customers for 10 and a half years as the whole family helps out. Cheryl said "It is a family business and my parents also help us out, so this helps when we want to spend time with the kids. During lockdown, Cheryl and Mathew were able to carrying on delivering the meal services when they closed the cafe due to lock down and restrictions.

Cheryl said:"We have found that even before lockdown, this meal delivery service was a life line, especially for many of our elderly customers."

"We used the delivery service during the pandemic as a check up to make sure that they were ok and to spend some time with them."

Even Cheryl and Mathew's son,Tobin, six, came along on some of the deliveries to cheer customers up with cakes that he made himself and kept them entertained.

The 33-year-old continued:"All the customers we went to was really happy to see us and enjoyed Tobin's cakes that he made."

When asked about what Cheryl would like to say to the customers who have supported the business, she said:

"We would like to say a massive thank you to old and new customers for your continued support but also to the staff who we could not have done anything without them."
