THE friends of Eleanor Clark, who died following a stroke in July, have set up a community fundraiser in her honour.

Ellie, 50, was rushed to hospital after falling ill at her home in Haltwhistle.

The mum-of-two, who got engaged to her partner Andrew Atkinson just two weeks before she died, worked tirelessly for the Haltwhistle community.

She was an active member of the Chamber of Trade and organised the town's late night Christmas shopping as well as fundraising for the Christmas lights.

Following her death tributes flooded in for Ellie, who was a partner at Armstrong's Bridal and Fashion, which she ran with her mother Catherine, and helped hundreds of brides prepare for their big day.

Now her friends have set up a community page in her memory.

They said: "We are fundraising in memory of Eleanor 'Ellie' Clark who has been at the heart of the Haltwhistle community for 50 years to ensure there is a lasting legacy in her memory.

"Ellie was Haltwhistle through and through.

"Money raised in her memory will be gifted to local causes that were dear to Ellie."

A Facebook page has been set up, called Ellie, Spirit of Haltwhistle.

The friends have also established a Go Fund Me page, where people can make financial contributions.

Hundreds of people lined the streets of Haltwhistle to bid a final farewell to Ellie when she was laid to rest on July 15.

Her fiance Andrew paid tribute to her in the Courant, saying: ""She was everything that a person should be. Kind, generous, loving, beautiful inside and out.
