EVENTS in the region were cancelled today due to the torrential rain forecast we had this morning.

The rain was quite heavy in places but it looks like the worst is yet to come.

The rest of this afternoon and tomorrow is forecast to be rainy in Hexham, with some thunderstorms in Prudhoe.

In light of this information, youth clubs Hexham Youthy and Tanga Hexham both cancelled their plans.  Youthy cancelled their trip to Plankey Mill, a campsite located on the River Allen, west of Haydon Bridge.

Unwilling to be put off, however, they re-organised and took their party to Haltwhistle Swimming Pool instead.  They kept the picnic they were supposed to be having at Plankey Mill.

Tanga Hexham cancelled their Tanga Outdoors event.

They said: "The field was completely waterlogged with huge muddy rain pools everywhere. We were hoping it would dry out tonight and we'd have only light rain today but we've woken up to more torrential rain that's forecast to last all day long.

"It's really sad after so much hard work has gone into planning this event that the weather is not on our side. We hope this hasn't caused too much of an inconvenience to our families attending and we will be back next Wednesday with the Bubbleologist to look forward to."

Corbridge Carboot also had to postpone.

They said: "Every effort has been made for today’s boot fair to go ahead but the weather is against us, so for only the 3rd time this year we’ve had to cancel.

"We are open every Wednesday until the Autumn unless the weather is bad."
