A DAY ride cycling event will take place to take in the beauty of the North Pennines and raise funds towards cycling routes.

On Sunday August 1, Cycling Tynedale (formerly Tyne Valley MTB Cycling) will host the event, which sets off from Whitley Chapel.

The 40 km route is called The Shire Shuffle and the Allendale Chimneys and is suitable for skilled gravel bike riders, mountain bikes and suitable ebikes.

The event has been planned to showcase the North Pennines as a fabulous area in which to cycle and to help the club raise funds for cycle routes which are otherwise unfunded.

This excellent route has been selected as one of the 15 best gravel bike / easy MTB / suitable ebike routes in Northumberland to be published in a new guidebook containing 33 routes in late August.

A spokesperson for Cycling Tynedale said: "Event day rides on all 15 routes are being organised to raise funds for cycle routes and facilities which receive no other funding.

"Lots of cyclists pay many hundreds of pounds for their bikes and kit and are invited to join these event day rides to contribute towards new cycle routes and facilities they will benefit from."
