An APP has been created to help visitors get the most out of Hexham.

Hexham Community Partnership (HCP) has launched the Visit Hexham app which includes self-guided walking tours around the town, event listings and a directory of places to eat and drink, shop, visit and enjoy.

Hexham is well-known as a heritage destination and has much to offer but sometimes, visitors are unsure of what to do on arrival.

Now, the app will enable visitors to enjoy a self-led experience tailored to their needs and interests, as well as providing an on-the-spot business directory and events listing.

Communications and tourism officer at HCP Rachel Ladd said: “We have been working to increase our digital presence and this has proved successful over the last two years with the addition of a new Visit Hexham website, as well as the full utilisation of our social media channels.

“However, to enhance the visitor experience in Hexham and to maximise the value of visitors to the town and to increase footfall and spend at local businesses, we recognised that we needed to take another step forward into the digital age and so the idea for the app was born.”

The Visit Hexham app is free to download and use. People should use their camera phone on a QR code for Apple or android. Alternatively, search for Visit Hexham in the play store/Apple App store on phone or tablet.

Although the app is aimed at visitors, its creators hope residents will enjoy using it too. Rachel added: “The self-guided walks are a great way to explore Hexham, even for those of us that live here.

“Hexham is full of beautiful buildings and interesting stories and we hope everyone will enjoying discovering them.”
